Rainfall Index insurance policies insure crop producers through plans including Pasture, Rangeland and Forage (PRF), Annual Forage (AF).
PRF policies are designed to help protect a producer’s operation from the risks of forage loss due to the lack of precipitation.
This is a rainfall index insurance policy that provides coverage on your pasture, rangeland, or forage acres grown for the intended use of grazing by livestock or haying. This program is designed to give producers the ability to buy insurance protection for losses of forage produced for grazing or harvested for hay, which result in increased costs for feed, destocking, depopulating, or other actions. The PRF program utilizes a rainfall index to determine precipitation for coverage purposes and does not measure production or loss of products themselves.
AF policies provide insurance coverage to acreage that is planted each year and used as feed and fodder by livestock.
This is a rainfall index insurance policy designed to protect against a lack of precipitation on annually planted forage crops. It utilizes a rainfall index, measuring local precipitation within a grid area, to trigger payouts when rainfall falls below a pre-determined coverage level. Producers can customize their coverage by selecting coverage levels, productivity factors, and two-month index intervals.
